A bunch of us had carbines when I was young and it was great sport hunting coyotes from horseback with M1's and M2's - they weren't all that hard to come by and ammo seemed plentiful enough - I even picked up a honest to goodness M1A1. Times have changed, if I had half the guns I once had I sure as Hell wouldn't have to worry about retirement.
All things being equal I pretty much gave up on the carbine because I thought the .30 carbine round was too anemic. I read some combat reports from the korean war that tended to bear that out. None the less, it was great fun stitching up the coyotes at a full gallop but I'll stick with my M1A until phased plasma rifles come into genl usage.
Anyway, Auto-ordnance has put togeather a clone M1A1 - way over priced, and I don't know where you can find reliable 30 rnd mags or ammo these days but it was fun remembering the old days.
