Okay - so it's not a pistol but a semi-automatic Thompson without a stock, but I still have an irrational fondness for it.

The Thompson Pistol, It Has Returned!
New for 2008, the Thompson 1927A-1 Deluxe Pistol TA5:
10.5" Barrel, Lightweight, .45 ACP with 50 round drum.
After a long hiatus and great demand, the Thompson Pistol has returned to the market! The Thompson Deluxe Pistol TA5 is lightweight with a 10.5" barrel length and a walnut, horizontal foregrip. Included with the Thompson TA5 is one of the most famous accessories, the 50 round Drum magazine. The authentic Drum is entirely U.S. manufactured to the specifications that are as close as possible to the original. A 30 round stick, 10 round and 100 round Drum magazine are optional.

Since 1999, Kahr Arms has been proud to support the legacy of the Auto-Ordnance Corporation, the original maker of the famous Thompson submachine gun. To ensure the historical accuracy of the Auto-Ordnance design, Kahr researched the original engineering drawings. Hundreds of U.S. military microfiche and hand drawings of the Thompson models dating back to 1919 were examined.

The Thompson submachine gun is a historical firearm. Each model is the union of original design, quality materials and fine workmanship. An American Legacy preserved. Thompson was carried by the gangsters in the 20’s and trusted by the troops in WWII. The Thompson Deluxe Pistol TA5 is now available. Find out how it feels to carry a piece of history before legislature and politics put this design back on the shelf.

Can it be had with a steel receiver as well?
I know that the pice has been associated forever with the .45ACP.However , it WAS made in limited ammounts ;in other calibers(.38 Super,30Cal carbine,IIRC;7.62X25,and 9mm).
I for one ,would LOVE to get a 7.62X25 variant...of course;my judgement may be suspect  .

I woul prefer an all steel version myself but as I understand it Kahr arms has all it can do to keep current with existing orders.

On a related topic - remembering the Clintoons high cap magazine ban - I thought stocking back a couple 50 or 100 round drums would might be a good investment while it still can be done. Paying $40.00 apiece for my M14 mags was killing me and you can bet I stocked up when the ban sunsetted. With O'Bama in the saddle I'm betting it going to get worse than it was with the Clintoons.
